GT Solar acquires sapphire substrate manufacturer Crystal Systems

GT Solar International, a solar cell and silicon epitaxial wafer production equipment company, said it has acquired the sapphire substrate and Sapphire manufacturer Crystal Systems, which has been valued by the LED industry.

According to GT Solar, Crystal Systems' sapphire processing technology complements the company's silicon growth technology, and will develop better sapphire silicon technology than other competitors. It is estimated that Crystal Systems' revenue will reach 1,600 in 2010. Ten thousand U.S. dollars.

Research institute LEDinside pointed out that the LED market will continue to be stimulated by LED backlight applications in the next few years, and the LED lighting applications that are gradually taking off can grow up. The most commonly used material for LED substrates is sapphire substrates. The industry also expects the production capacity of sapphire substrates. The technology has been upgraded to meet the demand for LED substrates upstream of LEDs.
